Zend Studio GUI Problems on openSUSE 11.2

Follow

Applies To:

[ Zend Studio 7.x, Zend Studio for Eclipse 6.x ]
[ Linux ]

Symptom

On openSUSE 11.2 the KDE 4.3 users may experience GUI problems when running Zend Studio. Some combo-boxes, for example in the Search dialog, are displayed as disabled:

Technical Details

The problem is caused by the incompatibility of the default GTK theme with the combo-box widgets used in Eclipse. The problem is relevant to any Eclipse-based product, including Zend Studio. It seems to affect only KDE users.

Resolution / Workaround

A different GTK theme needs to be set for programs run under KDE. To do this:

  1. Open the Personal Settings application (systemsettings).
  2. Go to Look & Feel | Appearance | GTK Styles and Fonts.
  3. Switch the style to one of the styles from the list below and click Apply.
  4. Restart Zend Studio.

List of openSUSE built in GTK themes that don't have the aforementioned problem:

  • Clearlooks
  • Industrial
  • Crux
  • Mist
  • Sonar
  • ThinIce
